Yuen Woo-ping's Desert Wuxia Blades of the Guardians Rides Onto UK 4K
Trinity CineAsia released Yuen Woo-ping's Blades of the Guardians on 4K UHD and Blu-ray in the UK on 19 October, and Well Go USA's US discs have been out since 6 October.
Yuen Woo-ping's Blades of the Guardians came out on 4K UHD + Blu-ray and on standard Blu-ray in the UK on 19 October, from Trinity CineAsia, Far East Films reports. In the US, Well Go USA has had it on digital since 30 June and on 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray combo and DVD since 6 October, according to No(R)eruns.net.
Far East Films says the film is adapted from Xu Xianzhe's manhua and set during the Sui dynasty. Bounty hunter Dao Ma, played by Wu Jing, takes a job escorting a man across the desert to Chang'an and finds out his passenger is Zhishilang, one of the empire's most wanted men. After that, as Trinity CineAsia puts it, every greedy faction is hunting them.
Trinity CineAsia's cast list includes Nicholas Tse, Yosh Yu, Chen Lijun, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Max Zhang and Kara Wai, with Jet Li in a special guest performance. It also names the K-pop singers Jun (Wen Junhui) and Win Win (Dong Sicheng) of NCT. Well Go USA calls it an epic wuxia adventure across the desert sands, and it's rated R in the US for strong bloody violence throughout.
Far East Films lists the UK extras as a Mandarin Dolby Atmos soundtrack, an English dub, behind-the-scenes clips (two of them exclusive to the 4K edition), cast greetings on the 4K only and UK trailers. UK viewers can also stream it through Apple TV, Prime Video and Sky Store, all linked from Trinity CineAsia's page.
Trinity CineAsia gives the running time as 126 minutes, while Well Go USA lists 130.
