Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell is getting a limited SteelBook edition in the UK, with the 1995 film on both 4K UHD and Blu-ray. Crunchyroll has it down for release on Monday 30 November in its UK home entertainment schedule.
The film is based on Masamune Shirow's manga and set in 2029. Major Motoko Kusanagi and the agents of Public Security Section 9 are hunting the Puppet Master, a hacker who can get inside people's minds and manipulate them. As Kusanagi closes in, Far East Films writes, the case raises more and more troubling questions about consciousness, identity and the line between humans and machines.
The Japanese voice cast includes Atsuko Tanaka, Akio Otsuka, Koichi Yamadera, Tamio Oki and Iemasa Kayumi. Far East Films lists Japanese and English audio, with English subtitles, so you can watch it with the original cast or the English dub.
Crunchyroll's schedule puts it out on the same day as Sailor Moon R, the second season of Sailor Moon, on Blu-ray. Crunchyroll says its UK discs are sold through Amazon, Zavvi and HMV.
Crunchyroll's own schedule lists the release as "Ghost in the Shell - Movie - Steelbook (4K + Blu-ray)", a modest billing for a film about a cyborg with a ghost.
