Odaiba's Amphibious Bus Will Drive You Into Tokyo Bay to Look for Godzilla

From 3 November, the SKY Duck bus runs Godzilla-hunting tours of Tokyo Bay for Godzilla Minus Zero, and a mall next to the bay is putting up a statue of the new Godzilla.

Odaiba's SKY Duck is a bus that drives off the road and straight into Tokyo Bay, and from 3 November it will be out there looking for Godzilla. The tour is called the Tokyo Bay Amphibious Patrol Operation: Godzilla Search Route, and it's a tie-in with Godzilla Minus Zero (ゴジラ-0.0), Takashi Yamazaki's sequel to Godzilla Minus One.

The bus wears a Godzilla wrap and plays music from the film. On board, Mio Tanaka, who plays former destroyer captain Tatsuo Hotta, reads newly recorded announcements that treat the ride as a mission to track the monster. Each loop takes about 50 minutes from Tokyo Teleport Station, with a stretch on the water that takes in the Rainbow Bridge. Adults pay ¥3,600 on weekdays and ¥4,000 at weekends and on holidays. A limited ticket with goods costs ¥2,000 more and adds a clear file, a sticker, a SKY Duck Choro-Q toy car and a bag. Bookings open on 16 October at 3pm Japan time, and the tours run until 28 February.

The guides speak Japanese, but the tour offers live translation of their commentary into up to 77 languages on your own phone, through a QR code.

On land, DECKS Tokyo Beach is marking its 30th anniversary with the film from 23 October to 30 November. A Godzilla Minus Zero statue goes up in its fourth-floor Tower Plaza, and the mall says it's one of only a dozen or so in the world. A Godzilla decoration about 10.5m tall and 5m wide covers part of the building's seaside side. At DiverCity Tokyo Plaza nearby, life-size Godzilla footprints decorate the station gate and the stairs, and two Yurikamome carriages carry the campaign's artwork until 12 November.

The film opens in Japan on 3 November, the date Toho calls Godzilla Day after the original 1954 release, and in UK and US cinemas on 6 November.

Strong wind, lightning or a low tide can cancel a sailing, so check the forecast before you go monster hunting.
