United Arrows has made clothes for a humanoid robot for the first time. Working with GMO AI & Robotics Trading (GMO AIR), the Tokyo fashion retailer designed a four-piece outfit, a jacket, trousers, a T-shirt and a scarf, made for Unitree's G1 robot. GMO AIR began taking orders on 20 October, the companies said in a joint press release.
The design concept is "unisex" and "uniform". According to the release, United Arrows designers and GMO AIR's robot engineers started by looking at an actual machine and testing the things that differ from dressing a person, such as size, range of movement and heat. The clothes are cut to keep clear of the joints and gears while still looking good as clothes, the lining is left out to help with heat, and the fabric is a light grey picked to suit the robot's metallic finish.
In the press photos, the jacket has a GMO patch on one side of the chest and a United Arrows crest on the other, worn over a white T-shirt with an orange scarf tucked in at the neck.
For now, orders go through GMO AIR's enquiry form. A sales page on GMO AIR's own shop, GMO Humanoid.shop, is due to open on 20 November, and the companies plan to sell the clothes at pop-ups and other events too. No price has been given.
United Arrows has also published an interview about the project on its own site, and posted a short video on its YouTube channel called "UNITED ARROWS meets Humanoid".
