Sammo in a White Suit: Go For Broke 2 Brings the Big Brother Back to the Brawl
Some names on a poster just make us sit up straighter, and Sammo Hung is one of them. Fresh off Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, the Hong Kong legend is back in Go For Broke 2 (aka Rebirth 2), from writer, director and star Marc Ma Yuhe (Shock Wave 2). It's a thematic sequel to Ma's 2024 Go For Broke, which made roughly $65 million at the Chinese box office.
This one's darker. Two parents, Xila (Isabella Leong) and Su Cheng (Wen Junhui of The Shadow's Edge), team up after their children are abused. Their search for the truth uncovers a web of corruption and conspiracy, and the hunt for justice turns into revenge. Bai Ke, Alan Aruna, Wang Longzheng, Casper Chu, Danny Chan Kwok Kuen (Ip Man 4) and Liu Yuze round out the cast. The film opened in Chinese cinemas on 3 October, and CMC Pictures and Maoyan Entertainment release it in select US theatres on 23 October.
The new trailer is blood-spattered and grim, so expect a crime thriller rather than a kung fu comedy. Still, Sammo in a white suit staring down a room of sharp tailoring is worth the ticket on its own. We'll see whether the fight scenes live up to the poster's knife.
