How to Make a Pucca Costume, Revisited: The Korean Star We Called Japanese
Our 2007 link to a Pucca costume tutorial became our sixth most-read post, mostly thanks to Spanish-speaking fans. Pucca has outlasted the old site.

In October 2007 we posted a link to a Craftzine tutorial for a Pucca costume, with one line: I'm sure someone somewhere will delight in this post. Plenty of people did. It became our sixth most-read post, with 263,720 views, and the comments ran to 20 pages, most of them in Spanish.
We also filed it under Japan, which was wrong. Pucca is Korean. She started in January 2000 as a character in animated e-cards from the South Korean company Vooz, a noodle-shop delivery girl with two black buns who is determined to win over a ninja called Garu. A TV series followed in 2006, and she went on to be bigger abroad than at home, which explains the comments.
She's still going. Pucca: Love Recipe was on Netflix from the end of 2019 until June 2023, and in February 2023 the official Spanish-language YouTube channel passed a million subscribers. It's run by DeAPlaneta, the franchise's agent in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Pucca videos had been streamed more than 700 million times by then.
The 2007 post and its comments are on the Internet Archive. Sorry it took us nineteen years to get her nationality right.
