Crazy Rich Asians Checks Back In, Now With an HBO Room Key
HBO has ordered a drama series based on Kevin Kwan's novels, with Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh back in the family business.

Eight years after the film, the Youngs are heading to HBO. The network has ordered an original drama series based on Kevin Kwan's Crazy Rich Asians novels, the Los Angeles Times reports. It picks up after Jon M. Chu's 2018 film, which USA Today says grossed nearly $239 million worldwide.
Constance Wu is back as Rachel Chu and Henry Golding as Nick Young. Ronny Chieng returns as Eddie Cheng, and Michelle Yeoh is back as Eleanor Young. Anyone still recovering from that mahjong scene can start hydrating now.
Adele Lim, who co-wrote the film, is showrunner and executive producer. She's joined as executive producers by Kwan, Chu, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Lim left the planned film sequel in 2019 over a reported pay disparity, so it's good to see her running the show this time.
The 2018 film showed that a Hollywood studio film with an all-Asian cast could be a big hit. A series gives Kwan's Singapore story more room, and the novels have plenty of gossip and aunties to fill it. USA Today reports that the series will run to eight episodes and is due in 2027, so there's time to save up for the private jet.
